How to make your Remy hair last longer with the right care and maintenance

With proper care, your Remy hair extensions can last 6-12 months or longer. The key is to treat your hair gently and use the right products. Here is our complete guide to keeping your extensions in tip-top condition.

Wash your hair extensions properly

How often? Wash only when really necessary – about every 10-15 uses or when hair feels heavy from products.

Step-by-step washing guide:

Prepare: Brush through hair gently before washing to remove tangles
Soak: Use lukewarm water (not too hot)
Shampoo: Apply sulfate-free shampoo from top to bottom, massaging gently
Rinse: Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
Conditioner: Apply conditioner from mid-length to ends, avoiding clips
Wait: Let the conditioner work for 3-5 minutes
Rinse again: Rinse with cold water for extra shine

Important: Always use sulfate-free products! Sulfates dry out your hair and shorten its lifespan.

Drying and styling

Best method: Let your hair air dry on a towel bar or hanger. This is gentle and preserves the hair's structure.

If you use a hair dryer:

Use low heat
Hold the hairdryer at least 15 cm from the hair.
Always use heat protection
Wipe from top to bottom

Styling with heat: You can use a straightener and curling iron, but always with heat protection and a maximum of 180°C. Avoid heating clips directly.

Brush correctly – avoid damage

Correct technique:

Always start from the tops and work your way up
Use a special brush for extensions or a wide comb
Brush gently – never tug
Hold your hair close to the roots when brushing the ends.
Brush before and after each use

Tip: Never brush wet hair! Wait until it is almost dry or use a wide comb very carefully.

Storage – the key to long shelf life

Best storage methods:

Original packaging: Return the theses to the original box when not in use.
On a hanger: Hang the theses on a clothes hanger in the closet
In a bag: Store in a silk or satin bag to avoid friction
Flat: Lay flat in a box, never folded or tangled

Avoid: Never store in damp areas such as bathrooms. Keep out of direct sunlight.

Products to avoid
